November 7, 1990: Dublin lawyer Mary Robinson became Ireland’s first woman president, revitalising a previously low-profile political office during her seven year tenure

November 8, 1793: The revolutionary government in France formally opened the royal art collection in the Louvre to the public. The Louvre is now the world’s largest art museum
