India hosts G20 summit in New Delhi
September 9, 2023 - September 10, 2023 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi is hosting some 30 heads of state and other senior officials at the G20 summit, where the Ukraine war and relations with China are expected to be high on the agenda.
The G20 major economies consist of 19 countries and the European Union (EU), making up about 85 percent of global gross domestic product (GDP) and two-thirds of the world’s population.
Travel and access to Delhi, known for having a high population density, is expected to be severely restricted ahead of the event as world leaders like Joe Biden, Xi Jinping, Emmanuel Macron and Justin Trudeau will reach the city to attend the multilateral event.
Vladimir Putin is too “busy” to attend the summit, the Kremlin has said. Russia will instead be represented by the country’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov.
