July 1, 2023 - July 31, 2023 - Events in July include the NATO summit in Vilnius, a Russia-Africa Summit in St Petersburg. general elections in Spain, the launching of the European space telescope Euclid and the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Jul 1, Space: Euclid, a European space telescope designed to explore the evolution of the dark universe to a sharper degree than ever before, is scheduled to launch from Cape Canaveral.
Jul 6, UK: Two rare Rembrandt portraits go under the hammer at Christie’s, 199 years after they were first sold there. The rediscovered paintings are believed to be the last known portraits by the artist in private hands.
Jul 11-12, Lithuania: NATO holds a summit in Vilnius, just 200km from the Russian border, at which Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky expects to receive a clear signal and “formula” for Ukraine to eventually become a member of the military alliance.
Jul 13, India: The Chandrayaan-3 mission, which aims to deliver a lander and a rover to the lunar surface, is expected to launch. If successful, it would make India the fourth country to achieve a soft landing on the Moon.
Jul 20-Aug 20, Australia, New Zealand: The FIFA Women’s World Cup sees 32 nations competing to become world champions, up from 24 in 2019, when the USA lifted the trophy for the fourth time.
