Tour de France 2023 stage profiles

By Phil Bainbridge

July 1, 2023 - July 23, 2023 - The 2023 Tour de France begins in Bilbao, in the Basque country of northern Spain on July 1, and finishes in the Champs Elysees in Paris on July 23.

The Grand Départ will be the second to take place in Spain’s autonomous Basque region, with the first three stages all in the Basque Country.

The 21-stage route favours the climbers with a record 30 categorised climbs and four summit finishes - including the return to the Tour of the legendary Puy de Dôme for the first time in 35 years. Sprinters will also have up to eight stages culminating in a bunch sprint, but with just 22 km against the clock, time triallists will have few opportunities to excel.

The stages include:
8 flat stages
4 hill stages
8 mountains stages
1 individual time trial
