Surge in migrant crossings from U.S. to Canada
March 3, 2023 - An upswing in illegal migrant crossings from the United States into Canada has led to calls for a police crackdown.
The number of migrants crossing into the United States along its southern border are surging, and now Canada too is seeing an escalation in illegal migrant crossings along its border.
In 2022, 39,540 unlawful migrant crossings from the U.S. were intercepted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) – more than double the number in 2019.
Economic misery and growing insecurity around the world is seeing Canada, a country of 39 million people with strict immigration policies, forced to deal with an issue that torments other wealthy Western nations – mass illegal land border crossings.
Opposition politicians are now calling on Justin Trudeau’s liberal government to shut down the Roxham Road crossing in Quebec – Canada’s most famous illegal border crossing.
Somewhat ironically, facing skilled labour shortages, Canada is actually looking for 1.5 million new citizens by 2025.
