Russian invasion: Situation report day 327
January 16, 2023 - The death toll from a Russian Kh-22 missile attack on a residential block in the eastern town of Dnipro has risen to 35, including two children. At least 73 people were wounded and over 40 people still reported missing.
Russian claims to control the whole of the town of Soledar, including its western outskirts, have been confirmed by Ukrainian sources. Russia is now making marginal gains in attacks on Bakhmut and the surrounding territory.
Russia and Belarus are conducting joint air force drills as part of the military co-operation which Minsk claims is “purely defensive in nature” but which observers in Ukrainians believe has echoes of the build-up to the invasion of their country in February 2022, and has raised fears of a renewed Russian offensive from the north.
