Situation critical in battle for Soledar

January 12, 2023 - Russia claims its capture of the salt mining town Soledar in eastern Ukraine, where the mines could serve as a commercially lucrative asset or an important storage for ammunition and weapons out of range of Ukrainian missiles, is now complete.

Moscow has identified the towns as a key stepping stone to the capture of the fortress town of Bakhmut which lies less than 10km to the southwest.
