It’s too late to order a new iPhone Pro for Christmas

By Ninian Carter

November 30, 2022 - If you’re hoping for an Apple iPhone 14 Pro, you’re out of luck. Shipments are weeks late due to ongoing disruption at the key Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou, China.

Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro models will miss market expectations by around 10-15 million units in the holiday quarter due to Covid-19 restrictions and labour unrest at a major Chinese factory.

The world’s biggest iPhone factory, which employs 200,000 people and is operated by Foxconn in Zhengzhou, China, has been hit by worker protests over pay and conditions, and strict Covid lockdowns following a large spike in coronavirus cases.

Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes falling production at the plant means that market expectations for the quarter of 80-85 million unit sales will fall short to around 70-75 million units.

There are already signs of the impact on sales, with waiting times for delivery of the iPhone Pro now extending into at least a month in most major territories around the world – meaning it is now almost impossible to buy the handset in time for the crucial and lucrative Christmas holiday period.
