New Pokémon games are fastest-selling in Nintendo history

November 24, 2022 - New Pokémon releases from Nintendo have become the company’s fastest selling games, notching up 10 million sales in 72 hours.

Nintendo’s latest game releases look set for blockbuster status after selling 10 million copies for its five-year-old Switch console in only three days.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were both released worldwide on November 18, selling over 4 million units in the gaming giant’s home market of Japan – a new domestic record.

The games, which retail for $60 each, are identical except for the lineup of characters and collectibles in each version – meaning if fans want to collect them all, they need to purchase both titles.

After the announcement, Nintendo shares rose almost 2% – helping offset a November 8 slump of 7% when the company cut its fiscal-year forecast for Switch console sales by a tenth.

However, the latest Pokémon titles have some way to go if they want to enter the top 10 selling video games of all time.
