Race to find survivors after Java quake
November 22, 2022 - Rescuers are racing to reach people still trapped under the rubble by the powerful earthquake in Java that left hundreds dead and damaged thousands of homes.
Indonesia straddles the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, a highly seismically active zone, where different plates on the earth's crust meet, causing earthquakes and volcanoes.
The country has a history of devastating earthquakes and tsunamis, with more than 2,000 killed in a 2018 Sulawesi quake.
