UKRAINE
Situation report day 243
October 24, 2022 - Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu claims Ukraine is preparing a false flag, radioactive dirty bomb attack on its own territory, a claim Kyiv and the West have dismissed as “transparently false”.
Both Moscow and Kyiv have accused one another of an impending attempt to destroy Nova Kakhovka dam on the Dniporo river, a move that is likely to flood the city Kherson and much of southern Ukraine, and which would slow Ukraine’s expected offensive on Kherson. Russian authorities say 25,000 civilians have already left the city ahead of the likely attack.
Russian attacks by Iranian Shaed-136 UAVs and S-300 missiles have continued to rain down on towns including Zaporizhya and Mykolaiv, but UK experts estimate up to 85% of drones are being intercepted, amidst claims from the Ukrainian Air Force Command to have shot down 273 since Russia began using them on September 13.
