Situation report day 223
October 4, 2022 - Ukrainian forces have broken through the front lines in Kherson, one of the four regions Russia’s president Vladimir Putin annexed last week, in the latest blow to Moscow’s military campaign.
Kyiv gave little information about the gains in the south, but Russian sources acknowledged that Ukrainian forces had broken through near Dudchany, a town on the Dnieper about 30km south of the previous front line.
The Ukrainian advance is targeting supply lines for as many as 25,000 Russian troops on the west bank of the Dnieper, Reuters news agency reports.
In the east, Russia’s proxy forces in Luhansk said Ukrainian troops had pushed a few kilometres into the Luhansk region. Reports suggest that the Ukrainians are moving towards the Russian-held towns of Kremenna and Svatove in Luhansk.
