At least 125 dead in Indonesia soccer stadium stampede
October 3, 2022 - At least 125 people died and more than 320 were injured in Indonesia on Saturday when spectators at a football match were trampled after police fired tear gas at fans who invaded the pitch.
The crush took place after home team Arema FC lost to bitter rivals at the overcrowded Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang, East Java, according to the BBC.
As panic spread, thousands surged towards the stadium’s exits, where many suffocated, the BBC said.
