UKRAINE

Situation report day 202

By Jordi Bou

September 13, 2022 - President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called on the West to speed up deliveries of weapons systems as Ukrainian troops move to consolidate control over a large swath of northeastern territory seized back from Russia, Reuters reports.

Zelenskiy said troops have now retaken more than 6,000 sq km from Russian control in September, in the east and the south.

Russia has admitted losing key cities in the north-eastern Kharkiv region, in what is seen by some military experts as a potential breakthrough in the war.

President Vladimir Putin and his senior officials have been largely silent in the face of Russian forces' worst defeat since April, when they were repelled from the outskirts of Kyiv.
