Situation report day 177

By Phil Bainbridge

August 19, 2022 - Ukrainian and Russian intelligence claims the other may be about to stage a “provocation” at Zaporizhya Nuclear Power Plant. Russian NPP staff have reportedly been told to stay away from the site and five Russian trucks have been spotted very close to one of the reactors.

In Russian-held territory a number of explosions and fires were reported in apparent acts of sabotage. In Kherson Oblast, a military base at Nova Khakhovka and a warehouse in Bilohirka were destroyed. Explosions were heard at the Belbeck military airbase near Sevastopol, where a drone was reportedly shot down. A Ukrainian drone was also downed near Kerch, at the Ukrainian end of the bridge which acts as a vital supply route for Russians in Crimea.

A fire also broke out at an ammunition depot in Belgorod province, within Russia, causing two nearby villages to be evacuated.
Russia made no territorial gains for the first time since July 6.
