Ukraine war situation report – day 133

By Phil Bainbridge

July 6, 2022 - Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev has restated their original war aims, including regime change, indicating that Russia’s military leadership doesn’t consider recent gains sufficient to have achieved the goals of the “special operation”, and retains territorial ambitions beyond Donbas.

In occupied territories of Luhansk and Zaporizhya Oblasts, Russia is stepping up forcible conscription to provide more manpower, particularly for the forces of the breakaway Luhansk People’s Republic which suffered considerable losses in the battles for Lysychansk and Severodonetsk.

Heavy artillery strikes have continued around Slovyansk and Siversk as Russian forces attempt to push westward, while demining and clearance operations have begun in Severodonetsk and Lysychansk to use them as a base for future offensives.
