Ukraine war situation report – day 125
June 28, 2022 - Firefighters and soldiers are searching for survivors in the rubble of a shopping mall in the Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk after a Russian missile strike killed at least 18 people in an attack condemned by the United Nations and the West.
Some 1,000 civilians were estimated to be inside the busy mall at the time of the attack at around 15:50 (12:50GMT), President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said.
The leaders of the G7 group of richest nations - who are meeting in Germany - condemned the attack as “abominable”.
Elsewhere on the battlefield, Ukraine endured another difficult day following the loss of the now-ruined city of Severodonetsk after weeks of bombardment and street fighting.
Russian artillery pounded Lysychansk, Severodonetsk’s twin city across the Siverskyi Donets River.
