May 30, 2022 - A consortium led by Todd Boehly -- approved by the UK government -- has completed a £4.25bn ($5.25bn) takeover of Premier League club Chelsea, ending two decades of ownership under Roman Abramovich

Key players in the consortium to buy Chelsea are: Todd Boehly, who owns a 20% share of baseball team LA Dodgers, and a 27% stake in NBA basketball franchise Los Angeles Lakers. While Clearlake Capital -- a California private equity firm led by José E. Feliciano and Behdad Eghbali -- will own a majority share of the club.

Also involved are Mark Walter, chief executive of Guggenheim Partners, which has over $310bn in corporate assets, and philanthropic Swiss billionaire, Hansjoerg Wyss.

The takeover includes an initial £2.5bn ($3.09bn) paid for Chelsea, followed by £1.75bn ($2.16bn) for future investments, including stadiums at Stamford Bridge and Kingsmeadow – not included in original purchase price.
