Ukraine war situation report – day 86
May 20, 2022 - Russian forces intensified their offensive in the Donbas region, as Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said the eastern region is like “hell”, acusing Russia of carrying out senseless bombardments.
Russian shelling in Ukraine’s eastern region of Luhansk has killed 13 civilians in the past 24 hours, the head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Hayday, has said, according to Reuters.
The industrial Donbas region, the focus of recent Russian offensives, has been destroyed, Zelenskiy said, as some of the world’s richest countries pledged to bolster Kyiv with billions of dollars.
Meanwhile, the White House is working to put advanced anti-ship missiles in the hands of Ukrainian fighters to help defeat Russia's naval blockade, officials said.
