New format for Indian Premier League 2022

March 26, 2022 - May 29, 2022 - The 15th IPL season sees the tournament expanded to 10 teams -- including new additions Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans -- with 74 matches played over eight weeks. The season begins with the Chennai Super Kings, the defending champions, taking on Kolkata Knight Riders.

New format for 2022 with 14 group matches per team. Two against each team in same group (8), plus team in corresponding row in other group (e.g. Mumbai v Chennai, 2), and one against remaining teams in other group (4).

Ten teams compete in IPL 2022:

Group A:
(1) Mumbai Indians
(2) Kolkata Knight Riders
(3) Rajasthan Royals
(4) Delhi Capitals
(5) Lucknow Super Giants

Group B:
(1) Chennai Super Kings
(2) Sunrisers Hyderabad
(3) Royal Challengers Bangalore
(4) Punjab Kings
(5) Gujarat Titans

Top four teams advance to Finals, with the final staged at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on May 29.
