Mariupol bombing triggers global outrage

By Jordi Bou

March 17, 2022 - International outrage over Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is growing after Russian forces bombed a theatre in the besieged city of Mariupol, where civilians were taking shelter.

Despite pictures of devastation at the scene, many civilians who were sheltering there are thought to have survived in a basement that withstood the attack.

Mariupol has suffered the worst humanitarian catastrophe of the war, with hundreds of thousands of civilians trapped in basements with no food, water or power for weeks.

Russian forces have begun letting some people out in private cars this week but have blocked aid convoys from reaching the city.
