“The Batman” marks 12th movie adaptation

By Ninian Carter

March 4, 2022 - Director Matt Reeves’ eagerly anticipated gritty, film-noir take on Batman hits cinemas in early March.

Few pop-culture characters have been reinvented as often as Batman.

With a comic-book history going back some 80 years, the Caped Crusader has had an enduring life in cinema, with 12 live-action adaptations since 1966 (when omitting theatrical serials).

Directors such as Tim Burton, Joel Schumacher, Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder have given us their take on the Dark Knight, and now it’s the turn of Matt Reeves, best know for films such as Cloverfield and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, to put his stamp on the franchise.

The Batman opens in most territories on March 4, but will open in some regions from March 1 to 11.
