Indomitable Nadal sets new mark to beat

By Chris Dinsdale

May 22, 2022 - Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam tournament of the season, takes place in Paris, France. Clay court master Rafael Nadal claimed his 21st Grand Slam in Melbourne to edge ahead of his great rivals Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

“King of Clay” could extend his lead at Roland Garros -- Nadal, 35, has dominated in Paris, winning 13 out of 17 singles titles since his tournament debut in 2005.

With Roger Federer struggling with injury, Novak Djokovic could be the Spaniards’ toughest opposition in Paris, should the Serbian overcome issues surrounding his vaccination status, which prevented him competing at the Australian Open in January.

Djokovic claimed the Roland Garros title in 2021, with a five-set victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas.
