Beijing 2022 Olympic Freestyle Skiing Moguls

By Ninian Carter

February 4, 2022 - February 20, 2022 - The 2022 winter Olympic Games, officially known as the XXIV Olympic Winter Games, take place in Beijing, China. Mogul skiing is a freestyle skiing competition consisting of one timed run on a steep, heavily moguled course, showcasing technical turns, aerial manoeuvres and speed.

Competition moguls are a series of artificial bumps on a piste, inspired by forms created when skiers push snow into mounds as they do sharp turns. Naturally occurring moguls tend to grow as skiers follow similar paths around them.

The term “mogul” is derived from the German word “hügel”, meaning mound or hillock.

Moguls made their Olympic debut at the Albertville Games in 1992.
