Golden Globes winners 2022
January 10, 2022 -
This year’s awards season got off to a muted start on Sunday night, with the 79th Golden Globe Awards ceremony unlike any before.
Nonetheless, the winners for 2022 include Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story and the Western film The Power Of The Dog leading the way in the cinema categories with three wins each.
Kate Winslet, Andrew Garfield and Sir Kenneth Branagh were the British stars recognised for their work in the past year.
After NBC bowed out as the broadcaster for this year’s event over controversy and boycotts relating to a lack of diversity at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the ceremony on Sunday was decidedly low-key.
There were no celebrity guests, with the show attended by “select HFPA members and grantees.”
HFPA’s troubles began last February when The Los Angeles Times uncovered infighting, possible financial missteps, questionable journalistic ethics and a jarring lack of diversity in the organisation’s ranks. The paper found that not a single one of HFPA’s 80-plus voting members were Black.
The New York Times followed with an examination of the group’s finances. The tax-exempt nonprofit reported that it had paid more than $3 million in salaries and other compensation to its members and staff.
