China to continue to “modernise” its nuclear arsenal

January 4, 2022 - China has defended its nuclear weapons modernisation policy and said Russia and the United States – by far the world’s largest nuclear powers – should make the first move on disarmament.

The world’s nuclear-armed states possess a combined total of about 13,080 nuclear warheads, with more than 90 percent belonging to the United States and Russia, according to SIPRI.
