Africa Cup of Nations 2021 match schedule

By Chris Dinsdale

January 9, 2022 - February 6, 2022 - The Africa Cup of Nations, the biennial international men’s football championship of Africa, takes place in Cameroon. The 33rd edition of the tournament - organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) -- will see 24 teams competing to be crowned continental Champions.

The tournament will take place exactly one year after the original start date due to the global coronavirus pandemic, security fears and political tensions within Cameroon.

Host nation Cameroon will open the tournament against Burkina Faso in Yaoundé on January 9. Reigning champions Algeria begin their campaign in Douala against Sierra Leone, while top ranked African nations Egypt and Senegal kick-off their tournaments against Nigeria and Zimbabwe respectively.

Egypt are aiming to lift the Nations trophy for a record-extending eighth time, and deliver their first title since 2010. A total of 14 nations have triumphed since the first Africa Cup of Nations in 1957, including Cameroon (5 times) and Ghana (4 times), looking to win their first title since 1982.

A total of 52 matches will be played at six venues over four weeks, with the final taking place at the Olembe Stadium in Yaoundé on February 6.
