Europe battles new Covid surge
November 15, 2021 - European countries are starting to impose new lockdowns as governments struggle to contain record coronavirus cases across the continent.
Austria introduced a lockdown on people unvaccinated against the coronavirus on Monday as winter approaches, with Germany considering tighter curbs and Britain expanding its booster programme to younger adults.
In the Netherlands, “lockdown-lite” measures have been imposed to limit social contacts in response to a sharp increase in infections.
Europe has again become the epicentre of the pandemic, prompting some countries to consider re-imposing restrictions in the run-up to Christmas and stirring debate over whether vaccines alone are enough to tame Covid-19.
