Final four battle in South American showpiece

By Chris Dinsdale

September 21, 2021 - September 30, 2021 - The Copa Libertadores, South America’s premier club competition, reaches the semi-final stage featuring one contest between Brazilian rivals Palmeiras and Atletico Mineiro, and Flamengo -- also from Brazil -- taking on Barcelona, from Ecuador.

CONMEBOL member associations include Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraquay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Teams from Argentina and Brazil are traditionally dominant in the tournament, sharing 45 of 61 titles between them since 1960.

Brazilian heavyweights Palmeiras beat rivals Santos in last season’s final to win the title for the second time.
