Top medal-winning nations at Summer Paralympics

August 24, 2021 - September 5, 2021 - The postponed 2020 summer Paralympic Games take place in Tokyo, Japan, from August 24 to September 5, 2021. Evolving from the Stoke Mandeville Games for wheelchair athletes, Rome hosted the first Summer Paralympics in 1960 -- featuring 400 athletes from 23 nations. This year, over 4,000 athletes are due to take part in the Tokyo Paralympics

In 2016, at the Rio Paralympics, the China topped the medal table with 107 gold medals, 81 silver and 51 bronze for a total of 239 awards. Followed by Great Britain in second place (64 gold), and Ukraine third with 41 gold medals.

United States leads all-time medals table with haul of over 2,100 medals, winning 771 golds. China is gaining ground having finished with most medals at last four Paralympics, in Athens, Beijing, London and Rio. United States have not finished in first place since their home Games in Atlanta, 1996.
