February 7, 2021 - February 13, 2021 - Graphics show birthdays and anniversaries for each day of the week. This week features British sailor Ellen MacArthur, actor James Dean, the South Korean film Parasite, the city of New Delhi, Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak, The Channel tunnel and penicillin.

February 9, 2020: The South Korean film Parasite became the first non-English language film to win a Best Picture Oscar. Bong Joon-ho also won the award for Best Director

February 10, 1931: The city of New Delhi was inaugurated as the capital of India. It houses all three branches – legislative, executive and judicial – of the Government of India

February 11, 2011: Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak bowed to pressure and stepped down, sparking wild celebrations in Tahrir Square and across the country

February 12, 1986: British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and French President François Mitterrand signed a treaty to construct an undersea tunnel between their two nations

February 13, 1941: Penicillin, discovered in 1928 by Alexander Fleming, was first used on a human patient, an Oxford policeman whose scratches from a rose bush had turned septic
