Spain passes one million Covid-19 cases
October 22, 2020 - Spain has become the first western European country to record one million Covid-19 infections, closely followed by France, as the continent intensifies measures to control a resurgence of the virus.
According to Johns Hopkins University, Spain counts 1,005,295 cases while France has totalled 1,000,369, the sixth and seventh highest tallies globally.
Russia is the worst affected country in Europe, with more than 1.4 million cases. The U.S. continues to lead the world with over 8 million reported cases.
Since the start of the pandemic, Europe has recorded more than 7.5 million cases and almost 250,000 deaths.
