September 27, 2015: Catalonia’s pro-independence parties won a majority in Spain’s regional elections, and claimed it gave them a clear mandate to form an independent Catalan state

September 28, 1995: China’s Communist Party rulers approved an ambitious five-year plan promising September 28, an end to poverty and a better deal for farmers and poor inland areas

September 29, 1970: Egyptian Vice-President Anwar Sadat was sworn in as acting president after the death the previous day of Gamal Abdel Nasser

September 30, 1935: The Hoover Dam, built during the years of America’s Great Depression, was dedicated by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt. It opened on March 1, 1936

October 1, 1890: The Yosemite National Park was created in California to protect the Yosemite Valley and surrounding mountains and forests from development

October 2, 1925: London’s enclosed red double-decker buses began service. Top decks were open on earlier models to reduce height to clear overhead obstacles like bridges and trees

October 3, 1990: East and West Germany were formally reunited as one country after 45 years of Cold War division. This day is now celebrated as German Unity Day
