September 7, 1940: Nazi Germany began the “Blitz” bombing campaign on London during World War II. Luftwaffe bombs killed over 300 people on the first day alone

September 8, 1995: The warring factions agreed on principles for peace in Bosnia, a significant step towards ending Europe’s worst conflict since World War II

September 9, 2015: Queen Elizabeth II became the longest-serving monarch in British history, after 63 years and 216 days. She came to the throne on February 6, 1952
