Star Trek franchise given huge boost by CBS

By Ninian Carter

July 23, 2020 - In a bid to boost viewer figures and increase subscriptions to its All Access streaming service in the U.S., CBS is producing seven new Star Trek shows.

Trekkies are in for a treat as U.S. broadcaster CBS rapidly expands the Star Trek science-fiction franchise with seven new shows heading to its network and All Access streaming platform.

The new shows are as follows:
Star Trek: Section 31 (working title)
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Star Trek: Lower Decks
Star Trek: Picard – Season 2
Star Trek: Discovery – Season 3
Untitled Nikelodeon Star Trek animated show
Untitled live-action show (possibly Star Trek: Starfleet Academy)

More details will likely be released at the Star Trek Universe Virtual Panel, taking place at the San Diego Comic-Con@Home event on July 23.

Fans outside the U.S., without CBS All Access, will be able to watch the new shows on alternative streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
