Liverpool claim historic Premier League title

By Phil Bainbridge

June 26, 2020 - Liverpool have ended their 30-year wait for a top-flight trophy by winning the English Premier League. The Reds took the title with seven games remaining -- the earliest any team has triumphed in the top tier of English football.

Liverpool have become the seventh different team to claim the Premier League title since 1993, after Manchester Utd, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers.

Since 2015, German coach Jurgen Klopp has transformed Liverpool from lowly 10th place in Premier League to domestic, European and World champions. In 2019, the Reds defeated national rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Champions League final to secure their sixth European crown.

High profile signings such as Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and goalkeeper Alisson have flourished under Klopp’s tutelage, alongside the development of youth talent, with the rise of 20-year-old Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Joe Gomez breaking into the first team.
