UK Prime Minister under fire as virus deaths soar

By Ninian Carter

May 11, 2020 - As UK deaths continue to rise, Prime Minister Boris Johnson is under fire for dropping “stay at home” guidance in favour of less clear advice to “stay alert”.

The latest figures from Johns Hopkins University show the UK is maintaining the worst coronavirus death toll in Europe, leading to calls for an inquiry into alleged mishandling of the pandemic.

The UK death tally has reached 31,930, exceeding Italy's total of 30,560. The United States has the highest toll in the world, with 79,528.
