April 6, 1520: Italian Renaissance master Raphael died. He is best known for his Madonnas and his frescoes in the apartments of Pope Julius II in the Vatican (detail above)
April 7, 1920: Indian musician Ravi Shankar, credited with introducing the sitar to Western audiences, was born. Among his many students was Beatle George Harrison
April 8, 1820: The Venus de Milo, a marble statue slightly larger than life and one of the most famous works of ancient Greek sculpture, was discovered on the island of Milos
April 9, 2005: Britain’s Prince Charles married his long-term companion Camilla Parker Bowles, a day later than planned to allow Charles to attend the funeral of Pope John Paul II
