Biden and Sanders sweep Super Tuesday states

March 4, 2020 - Joe Biden scored sweeping victories across the country in the Democrats’ Super Tuesday contest to challenge President Donald Trump, winning in 10 of the 14 states.

Bernie Sanders remains ahead in the biggest race -- California -- as final votes are counted, setting up a one-on-one battle for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Sanders refocused his White House bid on his rival after billionaire Mike Bloomberg suspended his campaign and backed Biden. Elizabeth Warren confirmed she was privately reassessing her future in the race.

With votes still being counted across the country, Real Clear Politics has allocated 566 delegates to Biden and 501 to Sanders. The numbers will shift slightly as several states have yet to report their final delegate counts.

The successful nominee must claim 1,991 delegates, which is a majority of the 3,979 pledged delegates available at the Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in mid-July.
