More than 2,800 coronavirus cases in China as death toll rises

January 27, 2020 - The coronavirus outbreak that began in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, in the province of Hubei, has killed 81 people in China so far and infected more than 2,750 globally, most of them in China.

Hubei province has accounted for 76 of the deaths reported so far. There have been one each in Shanghai and the provinces of Hebei in the north, Heilongjiang in the northeast, Henan in central China and the southern island province of Hainan.

The spread of the illness is being watched around the globe, with a small number of cases appearing in other countries.

Cambodia confirmed its first case on Monday. Cases also have been confirmed in Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea the U.S., Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Nepal, France, Canada and Australia.

China has also reported eight cases in Hong Kong and six in Macau.
