Star Wars pop culture sale

By Ninian Carter

November 29, 2019 - December 13, 2019 - Fans can pick up a piece of Star Wars history at an online auction of collectibles ahead of the release of the final movie in the sequel trilogy, “The Rise of Skywalker”.

An online auction of star Wars collectibles will run for two weeks in the run up to the festive period and the release of the final movie in the sci-fi triple trilogy, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”.

Items to go under the hammer include a rare Japanese R2-D2 radio, prototype Stormtrooper helmet and ILM model making department character size chart.

This is the second such auction to be held by Sotheby’s, the first in 2015 sold all 600 items and netted some $500,000.

The Star Wars franchise is one of the most successful in history, leading Disney to buy Lucasfilm in 2012 for over $4 billion. Since then it has invested heavily in its future – making a new trilogy of films, a spin-off television show and building two enormous theme park attractions.

The auction runs online from November 29 to December 13, 2019.
