November 22, 2019 - A total of 3,322 candidates are standing for election in the UK’s 650 parliamentary constituencies on December 12.

Around a third -- 1,120 -- of this year’s candidates are women compared with 959 in 2017, according to an analysis by the Press Association news agency.

More than half of all Labour’s candidates are women -- 333 of 631 candidates or 53 per cent, while 20 of SNP’s 59 candidates are women, amounting to 34%.

Of the 611 Liberal Democrat candidates, 188 (31%) are women -- up from 29% in 2017 -- while 190 of the Conservatives 635 candidates at this election are women, making a total of 30%.

Some 60 seats feature “Remain Alliances” between the Lib Dems, Greens and Plaid Cymru to ensure the parties that want to stop Brexit do not split the vote.

Meanwhile, Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party pulled out of all 317 seats the Tories won in 2017.
