Liverpool chase record for longest winning streak

By Chris Dinsdale

October 20, 2019 - English Premier League, Matchday 9. After a flawless start to the season, Liverpool aim to extend their winning streak against struggling rivals Manchester United, at Old Trafford.

Liverpool, coached by Jurgen Klopp, claimed their 17th successive Premier League victory with a last gasp penalty at Anfield against Leicester on October 5. The victory moves them to within one of Manchester City’s Premier League record set in 2017, and only
three wins shy of eclipsing the European record held by Bayern Munich.

The Reds only lost one league game last season, to Manchester City, and are currently a remarkable eight points clear of their title rivals at the top of the table. They are also chasing Chelsea’s record of nine straight wins at the start of the 2005 Premier League season.

In their next four matches Liverpool face three of last season’s top six placed teams, including a clash with Manchester City on November 10.
