Slovenia’s Adria Airways is latest European airline to go bust

By Mike Tyler

October 2, 2019 - Slovenian carrier Adria Airways is the latest in a string of European airlines to have folded in the past few years, leaving thousands of passengers stranded, crew unemployed and aircraft grounded.

The airline filed for receivership on Monday after having to suspend most of its flights over the past week amid financial woes.

Adria, founded in 1961, has around 500 employees and is owned by German investment firm 4K Invest. Its fleet of 20 aircraft flew from Ljubljana to more than 25 cities in Europe.

September also saw the collapse of French carrier Aigle Azur and the UK’s Thomas Cook.
