September 22, 2006: The F-14 Tomcat, made famous by the movie Top Gun, was retired by the U.S. Navy after 32 years in service. It was superceded by the F/A-18 Super Hornet

September 23,1949: Bruce Springsteen, U.S. singer- songwriter, was born. He came to fame in the post-Vietnam War years with hits like Born to Run, and Born in the USA

September 24, 2015: Over 2,000 people were crushed or suffocated in the deadliest ever stampede at the annual Hajj pilgrimage near Mecca.

September 25, 1818: The first blood transfusion using human blood, as opposed to earlier attempts using animal blood, was carried out at Guy’s Hospital in London
