U.S. braced for 'life-threatening' storm surge

By Jordi Bou

September 5, 2019 - Hurricane Dorian is expected to bring life-threatening storm surges up the U.S. east coast after devastating the Bahamas.

Dorian, now a Category 3 storm, is lashing the coast of Carolinas as it moves slowly north. More than 2.2 million people have been ordered to evacuate.

On September 1, Dorian hit Bahamas as a Category 5 hurricane – equalling the highest ever recorded at landfall.

At least 20 people were killed and 70,000 have been left in need of immediate humanitarian relief.

Dorian is forecast to move close to the coast of South Carolina on Thursday, then "near or over" the coast of North Carolina overnight and on Friday.
