U.S. Open men’s preview 2019
August 26, 2019 - September 8, 2019 - The 139th U.S. Open, the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the season, takes place at Flushing Meadows, New York.
For the fourth successive Grand Slam tournament, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer head the seeds. World No. 1 Djokovic will take his place in the top half of the draw -- aiming to win a fifth major title in six attempts -- while Rafael Nadal will lead contenders in the bottom half as the No. 2 seed.
Third seed and five-time U.S Open champion Federer will find out at the draw ceremony whether he falls in Djokovic or Nadal’s half of the draw, while fifth seed Daniil Medvedev will provide tough opposition following a stellar hard court season that included his first Masters victory in Cincinnati.
Flushing Meadows marks the final Grand Slam of the 2010s, with perennial rivals Federer, Nadal and Djokovic scooping 32 of 39 crowns so far. Just three other players claimed U.S. Open titles in this decade -- Andy Murray (2012), Marin Cilic (2014), and Stan Wawrinka (2016).
