August 4, 1944: Anne Frank and her family were discovered by the Nazis after two years hiding in an attic room in Amsterdam. Anne’s famous diary was published after the war

August 5, 2018: A 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck Lombok, Indonesia, killing over 500 people. More than 1,000 were injured and over 357,000 displaced

August 6, 2018: French chef Joël Robuchon died aged 73. He operated 13 restaurants around the globe and had 32 Michelin stars, more than any other chef in the world

August 7, 1819: The Battle of Boyaca, the decisive battle in Simon Bolivar’s liberation campaign, resulted in the independence of Colombia from Spain
