TERRORISM
Terrorism threat remains high in Europe
July 1, 2019 - Jihadist attacks killed 13 people in the EU in 2018 – down from the previous year – but a significant number of thwarted attacks shows that the threat of terrorism in Europe remains high, according to the latest Europol report.
In total, EU member states reported 129 terrorist attacks in 2018, of which 24 were jihadist in nature. Sixteen jihadist plots were thwarted,
including three planning to use poison chemicals.
All of the jihadist attacks were committed by individuals acting alone, using firearms and unsophisticated weapons such as knives.
