Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam where seedings do not follow the world rankings, instead taking into account players’ previous performances on grass. French Open champion Ashleigh Barty tops the seedings for the first time at a grand slam, with Naomi Osaka second, Kiki Bertens third and defending champion Angelique Kerber fifth.
Surprise success for Barty at Roland Garros extended remarkable streak of nine different major champions in last 10 Grand Slams -- only Osaka has achieved more than one title since 2017, with the Japanese star clinching successive crowns at U.S. Open and Australian Open.
